Designer Diane von Furstenberg posts Swimsuit Selfie along with Empowering Message

It’s a new year, and Diane von Furstenberg is bringing it in with an empowering message, by ushering in 2021 with a rally cry to women of all ages to “own” their age.

Earlier this month, the 74-year-old legendary Belgian fashion designer received praise for sharing an unedited swimsuit selfie to Instagram with her more than 257,000 followers. The selfie-style photo revealed her wearing a green swimsuit and apparently makeup-free along with a caption asking fans, “Am I crazy to post this?” She continued, “Own your age …it’s proof you have lived. Love to everyone.”

Furstenberg has been advocating for women’s empowerment for years and continues to through inspiring posts such as this one.  Since posting, Furstenberg’s swimsuit selfie has captured the attention and likes of more than 38,000 people, and counting!

“You aren’t crazy at all please don’t think so,” one Instagrammer commented. “You are real and human. Thank you for sharing this.” Another chimed in saying, “Your honesty is one of your finest characteristics.”

“Makes me happy to see you so natural,” another wrote of the designer’s makeup-free, post-swim photo. “I believe woman should age naturally and gracefully. You look beautiful.” The photo of the legendary designer behind the infamous DVF wrap dress received love from some of her famous friends like Kris Jenner. The “Keeping Up With The Kardashians” matriarch called the photo “beautiful,” while actress Andie MacDowell told von Furstenberg she was “looking fantastic.”

Von Furstenberg’s guide to living well includes taking care of yourself by stretching daily, wearing sunscreen and trying to eat as healthfully as possible. “You are what you eat. It’s as simple as that. Eat fruit in the morning, eat lots of vegetables, avoid wheat, avoid sugar. That doesn’t mean you have to be perfect, but just enjoy being healthy,” von Furstenberg told Vogue. “You only have one health, and your body is what you eat and what you do to it.”

For all her tips on living and aging, her “own it” philosophy has been somewhat of a mantra for von Furstenberg in all areas of her life. “The secret of life is one thing: Own it,” the designer told Forbes magazine in 2019. “Own your imperfections. Own your vulnerability; it becomes your strength. Whatever your challenge is, own it. Owning it is the first step to everything.”
