Dave Mustaine’s Fight with Cancer is Looking Up

On Tuesday, September 17th, rock icon Dave Mustaine of Megadeth gave fans across the globe a relatively positive update on the rocker’s fight with cancer.

The veteran rocker said his recovery is going very well. “I’m almost through the last round of treatment and my doctors are feeling very positive regarding my progress. I want to thank all of you for the support and well wishes these last few months. I can’t express enough gratitude as it has made this hard road easier knowing you are in my corner fighting with me!” wrote Mustaine, who revealed in June that he’d been diagnosed with throat cancer.

“Over the next few weeks my condition will be evaluated, and I will keep you posted on my progress as we get closer to the sailing date of the first Megacruise!” wrote Mustaine. “We can’t wait to see you, and I know all of the other wonderful artists feel the same way. Let’s make this event one for the record books. Less than 30 days till we are Thrashing through the Pacific!”

The 57 year-old speed metal icon said at the time that his treatment necessitated the canceling of all the band’s scheduled shows for the rest of the year, with the exception of their Megacruise, which is still slated to take place from Oct. 13-18. The band’s first fan cruise will leave from Los Angeles and take sea-faring headbangers on a route through San Diego and Ensenada, Mexico, before returning to L.A. on the 18th.

Megadeth has been working on their 16th album, which bassist David Ellefson said is due out early 2020.
