In less than six months, Cody Johnson will have released his documentary, The Cody Johnson Story, his week-old album Human, and an upcoming, premiere holiday album, A Cody Johnson Christmas. The country star is nothing if not productive, but, instead of reveling in the online celebration of putting out project after project, he decides to stay completely unplugged.

“I checked out,” Johnson explained, calling into a recent interview from his truck while out on a cow-buying errand.

While the COVID-19 pandemic motivated him to produce more than he initially expected in such a short amount of time, Johnson sticks to his guns to stay grounded. “I’ve got 6-year-old and 4-year-old little girls,” he says, “and I’m trying to be not just somebody who’s out trying to be a good leader to influence the people around me. I want to be better. And the things that make me better are working on my ranch and just doing the normal things.”

Human, released earlier this month, consists of 18 tracks split up into a double-album experience. While digitally available for a few weeks now, the physical version of Human will be available on October 29th.
