It has been officially announced that the 2021 CMT Music Awards, which bills itself as “country music’s only entirely fan-voted award show,” will air on Wednesday, June 9, at 8 p.m./7 p.m. Central. In a recent statement, CMT said this year’s 2-1/2 hour show would be shot “in and around Music City.” More details will be announced in coming weeks.

This schedule will put the show back on its regular schedule after being delayed to October last year because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Other than last year, the show has aired in June every year since 2009.

Last year’s show, staged on an outdoor set in Nashville, was co-hosted by Kane Brown, Sarah Hyland and Ashley McBryde. The two previous shows, held in June 2018 and June 2019, were both held at Bridgestone Arena in Nashville. Little Big Town hosted both of those shows.

Carrie Underwood’s “Drinking Alone” won video of the year last year. Gabby Barrett’s “I Hope” took breakthrough video of the year. Other awards went to Luke Bryan, Old Dominion, Dan + Shay, Blake Shelton with Gwen Stefani, Chris Young and Granger Smith. Jennifer Nettles received a special “CMT equal play award.”

The 2021 CMT Music Awards will air on CMT; simulcast networks will be announced at a later date.
