“Saturday Night Live” starring John Travolta was more than a period piece of the 70’s; it was a celebration of the Disco music era. In the early 70s, soft and Classic Rock was beginning to take shape, yet Disco pulled the car off the road and for nearly a decade, crowding out other genres. Here are more examples…

“I Will Survive” by Gloria Gaynor proved the ladies could get up and dance.

“Staying Alive” by the Bee Gees came from the John Travolta movie and solidified the Bee Gees as the disco kings of this really bad genre.

“That’s the Way, I Like It” by KC and the Sunshine Band was beautifully produced and still sounds great today.

“YMCA” by the Village People became the anthem for blue collar disco, becoming a song that continues to be played at sporting events 365 days a year.

“Love to Love you Baby” by Donna Summer was a huge hit in clubs that literally wore out the word love.
