They say a cat has nine lives. How about the Cat Stevens? Here’s proof he has many lives. Steven Demetre Georgiou was born in London in 1948, changing his performing name of Cat Stevens at an early age. Like most rockers in the late 60s and early 70s, Cat played the celebrity game well.

Women, wine and song were his best friends for decades until a spiritual awakening in 1976 after nearly drowning off the coast of Malibu. From that day forward, Cat began a spiritual journey that included changing his name to Yusuf Islam.

Cat has been in the movies of sorts, with his music all over great films like “Harold Meets Maude,” “Almost Famous,” “Forrest Gump,” “Remember the Titans” and more. In fact, his song “If You Want to Sing Out, Sing Out,” is a TV commercial getting lots of airplay.
