We loved the 70s; loved the soul sounds of the 70s. For just a few minutes, step aside from the brothers of Doobie and Fleetwood Mac because here come the singers with soul…

The 5 Staples from Chicago dominated the charts in the 70s. “Respect Yourself” still rocks today. What can you say about the Stylistics? This Philly born band released nine albums and nearly 30 singles in the 70s. Listen to the high pitched voice of Russell Tompkins Jr. and tell us it didn’t influence Steve Perry of Journey? The Emotions hit the charts with “The Best of My Love” and demonstrated real power and soul.

The gals of the 70s could make their fans happy with the songs they sang. The Motor City’s Freda Payne gave us the million-sellers “Band of Gold” while Betty Wright’s “Cleanup Woman” stopped us in our tracks. No one was better at bringing fans to their feet and selling millions of albums than Aretha Franklin. Dorothy Moore and Millie Jackson each hit the charts with great soul songs.
