During the holiday season with the winter frost in the air and hearty roast beasts served on the table, a classic Cabernet Sauvignon is the perfect fool-proof choice to give or serve this time of year.

First, when it comes to holiday wine gifts, unless you know the recipient’s particular tastes well,  it’s best to go with something that is recognizably appealing. And, of course, it doesn’t hurt to pick a grape variety  that is broadly identified with the upper echelons of wine.

Second, there are some excellent Cabernets to be found at every price point. From a $10 bottle to satisfy thirsty partygoers to a $40 hostess gift that will be greeted with a warm smile, to a $100+ bottle that will make even your snootiest and difficult to please friends (and family) happy, Cabernet is a great go-to.

And don’t forget to buy a bottle for yourself—this season can be stressful, after all, and you deserve a present, too.
