Bruce Springsteen gave us the iconic album “Born to Run” in the mid-70s; the album is still considered one of the finest pieces of music ever recorded. Bruce’s most inner thoughts will be made public as he’s nearly finished with his autobiography “Born to Run,” due out in the Fall. Here’s part one of “The Boss’s Best.”

“Blinded By the Light” from his ‘Greetings from Asbury Park’ album is a classic that Manfred Mann covered years later; it’s considered autobiographical. Go back and listen to the song and you’ll hear Bruce’s recount of his early struggles in New Jersey.

Sure “Born to Run” is the pick of the litter from the self-entitled album, but “Thunder Road” is the critics’ choice as their favorite from the album. Oddly, the song was dropped from live performances for many years, but brought back on June 14th, 2008. Bruce was told that his dear friend Tim Russert had just died suddenly during the concert. Bruce stopped the show and played an acoustic version to his great friend whom had just died.

“Brilliant Disguise” from the 1987 Tunnel of Love album is a wonderful song that refers to his brief marriage to actress Julianne Phillips. The lyrics will make more sense if you go back and listen to it now, knowing that a pending divorce was on the horizon.
