Just a day after Barack Obama included her “Girl Goin’ Nowhere” on his list of his favorite songs from 2018, Ashley McBryde stopped by CBS Saturday, December 29th, to perform the song and talk about her breakout year.

McBryde discussed her reaction to learning that her album Girl Going Nowhere was nominated for a Best Country Album Grammy. “I got so overwhelmed,” she said. “There was so much love coming at me at one time.” The singer also told CBS This Morning’s Anthony Mason about her beginnings as a songwriter and early pressure to change her image.

“It came across as ingeniune,” she explained. “And it was a cool lesson for me, too, because I found out that unless I’m just unapologetically who I am, I really suck at pretending to be someone else.”

In addition to the interview, McBryde performed “Girl Goin’ Nowhere,” “El Dorado” and “American Scandal” on the show. Check out video of her “Saturday Sessions” segment here.
