When you think of the dearly departed Isaac Hayes, you think of one of his biggest songs, “Theme From Shaft.” We’re sad that he’s gone, but he’s back in the news as a four-CD collaboration of ‘best of’ called ‘The Spirit of Memphis (1962-1976),’ is set to drop later this month.
‘The Spirit of Memphis (1962-1976)’ is the ultimate Isaac Hayes collector’s item, containing most of the hits he sang, but also the songs he either produced or co-wrote, which includes Sam and Dave’s “Soul Man,” “Boot-Leg,” (Booker T and the MGs) and songs from the Emotions, William Bell, and Carla Thomas.
Isaac Hayes was one in a million, having sold millions of records, earning an Oscar for ‘Best Original Score’ “The Theme From Shaft,” while scoring three Grammys along his illustrious career. There are over 75 songs on this LP, so be sure to get it.
