Thursday, September 3 is National Baby Back Ribs Day, and since Chili’s restaurants made that ear worm jingle part of our lexicon, it stands to reason they’d want to celebrate.  So they are offering up their $15 Smokehouse Combo and $17 Ultimate Smokehouse Combo specials, which feature their world-famous baby back ribs! The Chili’s smoked Baby Back Ribs are slow-cooked using pecan wood and aged to perfection., then seasoned with either honey chipotle, house BBQ sauce or Texas dry rub.

This deal is available all day Thursday, September 3, and the Smokehouse Combo specials are available for outdoor dining and to-go at participating restaurants.  And if you want to give the gift of good eats, they also offer to deliver a full order of ribs to a friend for you as one of their “Tasty Tokens of Appreciation.”

Five Fun Facts About Baby Back Ribs:

1. These can sometimes be called Loin Ribs, or Back Ribs.

2. They’re not as meaty or fatty as Spare Ribs, however, what they lack in fat and meat, Back Ribs more than make up for it with tenderness.

3. In order to be called “baby back ribs” the rack needs to be smaller than a pound and a half, and just a  3-ounce serving of roasted baby back ribs contains 20 grams of protein.

4. Pigs have 14 rib bones! They are divided into four popular cuts: spare ribs, St. Louis, rib tips and baby backs. The baby backs are pork ribs that are cut from the lowest part of the rib section on the back and tend to make smaller portions.

5. Lyndon B. Johnson threw the first White House barbecue to feature “Texas-style” ribs, and Jimmy Carter hosted a “pig-pickin’” for 500 people.
