AJR are an American pop band composed of multi-instrumentalist brothers Adam, Jack, and Ryan Metzger. The band writes, produces, and mixes their material in the living room of their apartment. Their most successful songs are “I’m Ready”, “Weak”, “100 Bad Days” and “Burn the House Down”. In 2019, their third album Neotheater debuted at number 8 on the Billboard 200, and hit number 1 on the Top Rock Albums chart.
The name “AJR” comes from the first initials of the three brothers, Adam, Jack, and Ryan. Their musical style has been described as “electric,” combining elements of pop, doo-wop, electronic, and dubstep.
“Bang!” is a song released by AJR as a single. It was released on February 12, 2020. It is, so far, the last song they have released, and the only one released in the year 2020. The lyrics of the song suggest that it may be their last song.
“So put your best face on, everybody
Pretend you know this song, everybody
Come hang
Let’s go out with a bang
(Bang! Bang! Bang!)
I’m way too young to lie here forever
I’m way too old to try, so whatever
Come hang
Let’s go out with a bang
(Bang! Bang! Bang!)”
AJR said about the song and video: “We wrote ‘BANG!’ about the weird middle-ground between being a kid and becoming an adult; a time when we’re doing all the things adults are supposed to do, but we don’t yet feel grown up,” says AJR. “The fact is, adulthood is bound to hit us at some point, so the plan we made in the song is to ‘go out with a bang.’ Sonically, with every new song we make, we try to stretch out of our AJR comfort zone. With ‘BANG!,’ it felt exciting to step into this darker, horn-heavy vibe, where the verses are small and mysterious, and the chorus explodes into this theatrical trap chorus.”
The track is currently at #6 on Top 40 charts nationwide.
