Peanut lovers, rejoice!  March 15 is National Peanut Lovers’ Day, right smack dab in the middle of National Peanut Month.

From PB&J’s to “everybody get your peanuts HERE” at ballparks around the country, peanuts are a timeless American favorite. Whether you prefer them sprinkled on salad or eaten by the handful, this classic nut is one seriously nutritious way to satisfy your snack cravings.

Did you know…

Peanuts are a Superfood?  They have more protein than any other nut, and they’re also packed with heart-healthy fats, filling fiber and a wide range of vitamins and minerals, but make sure you choose raw or dry-roasted, unsalted peanuts.  They’re most healthy in their raw form because over 15% of the healthy oils are lost in the roasting process, plus a lot of bloat-astic sodium is added.  And, studies show that people who eat nuts regularly live two to three years longer than those who don’t.

Chock Full O’ Nuts?  Roasted nutshells were used as a coffee substitute during the civil war.

The nut allergy is among the most common food allergies.

Peanuts account for two-thirds of all snack nuts consumed in the United States.

Initially a fancy-pants sandwich, the invention of sliced bread in the 1920s helped prompt its migration to an everyday staple. The first located reference to the now immortal peanut butter and jelly sandwich was published by Julia Davis Chandler in 1901.

Archibutyrophobia is the fear of getting peanut butter stuck to the roof of your mouth.

Everybody loves peanuts; so much so, that there’s a saying: “Will power is the ability to eat one peanut!”
