It’s still hard to believe we’re living without Glenn Frey, but his music carries his legacy with every Eagles song we hear. In the early days, Glenn became fast friends with JD Souther, a musician who had his own success along the way.

The two wrote songs in the late 60s, collaborating under the name of a group known as Longbranch/Pennywhistle. They released an album in 1969 that is about to be reissued this September.

The self-entitled Longbrnch/Pennywhistle LP contains 10 songs, many written by Souther and Glenn. What makes this album a ‘must have’ for Frey or southern folk-rock fans is the additional artists who can be found in the production of the project. You’ll hear the legendary Jim Gordon and fiddle player Doug Kershaw, Don Henley, James Burton, Jackson Browne, and Ry Cooder. How good was the team of Frey and Souther? They wrote the Eagles songs “New Kid in Town” “Best of My Love,” “Victim of Love” and “Heartache Tonight.” Look for the Longbranch/Pennywhistle on shelves and digitally in late September.
