Tom Petty has been gone for a while, but life continues to find ways to keep him in the news. A few days ago, the 1st ever single from his soon to be released box set ‘An American Treasure’ was released, and now we learn that Tom will be the 1st ever artist to posthumously earn a Top 10 hit for a song released decades ago. Tom’s “Keep a Little Soul” was recorded in 1996, but not released until after his death and in collaboration of a box set release.

“Keep a Little Soul,” comes from Tom Petty’ and the Heartbreakers 1982 ‘Long After Dark’ LP, a song never released as a single, but chose to celebrate the box set becoming available by serving as a promotional single. ‘An American Treasure’ is a 60-track set of songs from Tom’s career, designed to drop in late September. The entire project is made possible by Tom’s wife and daughter who gave permission and gave oversight to the project.

Tom Petty died from a combination of mixed drugs on October 2, 2017, at the young age of 66.
