Many historians consider the songs “Rocket 88” from 1951, written by Ike Turner, to be the very 1st Rock and Roll song, recorded by an unknown studio technician Sam Phillips.

“Layla” was the big hit from the short-lived supergroup ‘Derek and the Dominos’ and it was about Eric’s lust for George Harrison’s wife at the time, Patti.

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame opened in Cleveland, Ohio in 1986, beating out cities like Detroit, New York, and Los Angeles. The first class included the Everly Brothers, Buddy Holly, Chuck Berry, James Brown, Ray Charles, Elvis, Sam Cooke, Fats Domino, Little Richard, and Jerry Lee Lewis.
