There were plenty of commercially successful soul bands in the 70s, perhaps a decade that seems more diverse then than now. If we created a list of soul rockers from the 70s these stars would be on that list…

Earth, Wind and Fire from Chicago set soul, rock and pop records with chart-busting singles, sell-out tours, and incredible diverse popularity in the 70s, 80s and early 90s.

The Isley Brothers took to the stage in the 70s after their success in the 60s, using new studio techniques and sound to turn heads in rock and roll. Listen to “Who’s that Lady” and ‘Fight the Power” and you’ll hear rock through the experiences of a different generation in the 70s.

From the Bay area came Sly and the Family Stone, with “Stand,” “I Want to Take You Higher,” and “Dance to the Music.” Make no mistake, this was an incredible rock band that played the hits.

Norman Whitfield and the Motown band ‘Rare Earth’ had their moment in the sun, as did Funkadelic, The Average White Band, the Brothers Johnson, Chic, and Sam and Dave.
