Margot Kidder, the actress who played Lois Lane in four ‘Superman’ films has died at the age of 69 at her home in Montana Sunday night. Friends and family tell Hollywood reporters that she died peacefully in her sleep.

Although the Superman franchise made her famous, she worked on over 50 movies and countless television shows much earlier in her lengthy career, starting with her first major role on the television show McQueen in 1969. Over the lifespan of her career, Margot earned an Emmy in 2015 for her work in children’s television, the R.L. Stine’s ‘The Haunting Hour.’

You might think life would be nothing by peaches and cream, given her notoriety generated by the Superman films, but in real life, she survived three marriages and thousands of dollars in medical bills, primarily due to mental health issues. At one point she became homeless in 1996, struggling with a bipolar disorder. Margot’s cause of death has not yet been confirmed. Our Lois Lane is gone at the age of 69.
