Here’s your John Mellencamp update; yes he did buy an apartment in New York, yes he’s still dating Meg Ryan, and yes he’s thrilled to hear he’s headed to the Songwriters Hall of Fame. The news about being admitted to the Hall occurred a few days ago. Included with John will be country performers Alan Jackson, Bill Anderson, and country songwriter Steve Dorff. Here’s why John belongs in the Songwriters Hall of Fame…

He’s written the most identifiable and popular songs from the 80s. “Jack and Diane,” “Hurt So Good,” and “Pink Houses” ruled the charts. “Cherry Bomb” and the “Authority Song” are tunes that inspired others in that era.

John’s hand a significant hand in Farm Aid and other charitable causes, demonstrating his selfless nature, qualities any hall should look for.

Finally, John’s songwriting is simple and powerful, not pretentious or gaudy. He’s the guy next door in your hometown of Seymour Indiana. Plus, he’s already in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, so this makes perfect sense.

The Songwriters Hall of Fame’s celebration will take place at the New York Marriott Marquis Hotel, June 14th.
