This Sunday, February 11th marks the 6th anniversary of the death of music icon Whitney Houston. Whitney would be 55 this year, enjoying today’s popular music, and likely hitting the charts with her own tunes. Sadly, six years ago this upcoming Sunday, February 11th, 2012, she was found unresponsive in her hotel bathtub; her death declared is described as somewhere between cardiac arrest. Whitney died one day before the 2012 Grammy Awards Show in Los Angeles.

Did you know that she Houston was offered the role of Sondra Huxtable on The soon to debut Cosby Show, but said no because she wanted to be a famous singer? When she said no, she didn’t have a record deal of any kind yet.

Whitney began as a background singer; you can hear her on many of the 70s Chaka Kahn singles. On her own, she achieved 11 number one songs, sold over 130 million records, and she’s the only female singer to score seven consecutive number ones from 1985 to 1988.

Finally, her NFL Championship Game National Anthem in 1991 is still considered today as the most wonderful rendition ever sung.
