Bob Seger and Glenn Frey Connected In So Many Ways

Bob Seger and Glenn Frey are both from the Motor City, rocking for over 40 years until Glenn’s untimely death a few years ago. That’s not the only way these two stars are connected though…

Bob helped Glenn get his first record deal, using his influence to get him signed to his management team. Glenn was about to join Bob’s ‘System’ but his mother forbid it because Bob was a smoker. Glenn started his own band called the Mushrooms, and Bob wrote their first regional hit “Such a Lovely Child.”

Glenn Frey would eventually gain prominence with the Eagles in the late 60s, remaining with the band but releasing great solos LPs through the 80s. Bob would break through with ‘Live Silver Bullet’ and ‘Night Moves,’ and both are in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Glen sang back up and played guitar on Seger’s “Ramblin’ Gamblin’ Man,” then years later Bob lent a writing hand by co-writing the Eagles smash “Heartache Tonight.”

Another Seger/Frey connection; Bob’s movie theme hit “Shakedown” from Beverly Hills Cop II was originally written for Glenn Frey, but Glenn lost his voice right before the studio deadline, so the song was given to Bob.
