Like many sports, the MLB is working to make the game better. For the sport of baseball, this is centered around the pace of play and shortening games in efficient ways. Just recently it was announced a new rule could potentially be put in place in hopes of shortening games and keeping fans watching.

This rule would add a base runner to second base at the start of the 11th inning in this year’s All-Star Game and in the 10th inning of all spring training games. The MLB hopes that this would help shorten games, but we’re not necessarily fans of it. Typically it’s the extra-inning games that are the most exciting and adding a runner to second base may decrease that drama!

One positive to this rule is that it would shorten games that have no effect on the regular season. This could potentially limit injuries and help with health overall. We’re excited to see the stats and drama that is brought on by this new rule if it does officially get put in place.
