The Most Successful Drummer of All Time Gets Lifetime Award

The Recording Academy has announced that it will honor a select group of artists this summer with the ‘Lifetime Achievement Award.’ Tina Turner, Neil Diamond, Louis Jordan, studio musician Hal Blaine, Queen, The Meters, and Emmylou Harris have all been selected.

Hal Blaine is now 88, an original member of the talented LA session group called ‘The Wrecking Crew’ which influenced music from the early days of rock and roll. Hal is considered to be the most talented session drummer of modern time, recording with Frank Sinatra, the Beach Boys, and Elvis – appearing on more than 30,000 recorded tracks and over 40 number one hit records. He’s also played on six consecutive Grammy ‘Record of the Year’ songs.

Hal is a member of Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, the Percussive Arts Society Hall of Fame, the Musicians Hall of Fame and Museum, and the Modern Drummer Hall of Fames.
