Toto’s ’40 Trips Around the Sun’ Drops in Three Weeks

What was once old is now new again, as Toto’s new greatest hits compilation, ‘40 Trips Around the Sun’ will officially drop February 9th. Toto began as a session group of musicians in the mid-70s, appearing on Steely Dan, Sonny and Cher, and Boz Scaggs albums that sold millions. ‘Toto’ in 1978 contained the band’s first hit “Hold the Line” and “I’ll Supply the Love.”

It wasn’t until Toto IV in 1982 that “Rosanna” and “Africa” would bring the band back into the spotlight. Sadly, original members Mike Porcaro (59) and Jeff Porcaro (38) have passed. Here, are our favorite Toto tunes…

“Hold The Line” became the band’s first hit, driven by the pulsating piano and catchy hook in 1978. The song hit the top five on the charts.

“Orphan” from ‘Toto XIV’ in 2015 gave the band new life in the 2000s, sung by Joseph Williams who had fronted Toto from earlier days. The album and song were released only days after Michael Porcaro died.
“Africa” and “Rosanna” comes from the ‘Toto IV’ and proved to be the best LP for the group, earning Grammys in 1983; the band received Producer of the Year, the LP, Album of the Year, Record of the Year for “Rosanna”.

“99,” “I Won’t Hold You Back,” and “I Will Remember You” are memorable Toto songs that must be included on any list.
