The Recording Academy announced this week that Tina Turner, Neil Diamond, Louis Jordan, the Meters from New Orleans (considered the fathers of Funk) session drummer Hal Blaine, and Emmylou Harris will receive the academy’s ‘Lifetime Achievement Award’ for a lifetime of contributions and influence.

Tina Turner and Neil Diamond have been recording and touring for nearly five decades, selling a combined 100 million records over the year, hitting the charts with countless number one songs, influencing popular music in a way others can only imagine

Queen the 70s and 80s rock band from the UK broke all the rules, using atypical sounds and lyrics to sell millions for records, going mainstream with songs that have become sports anthems and more.

As a member of the Los Angeles based ‘Wrecking Crew’ drummer Hal Blaine has played on nearly 30,000 recordings, appearing on songs from the Beach Boys to Carpenters, a key part of over 60 number one songs.

The Meters and Louis Jordan contributed to the sound of Funk and jazz, based primarily in the New Orleans area, making waves with their unique groove and funk. The ceremony for the ‘Lifetime Achievement Award’ is scheduled for later this summer.
