Many people will be happy to say goodbye to 20917, but we suspect Ed Sheeran is not one of them; his song “The Shape of You” was not only the charts for a record time, and the song of the year; it also helped propel Ed to a new digital record. Ed’s the first artist to have back to back billion streaming songs since the digital world began to count steaming metrics in popular music.

Now think about this for a minute; the two songs “Thinking Out Loud” and “The Shape of You” have been streamed at least one billion times each! Putting this in perspective, the Top 100 tunes that had streaming metrics in 2015 were streamed between 500 million and less, very few title ever get close to the B at all, none the less having Ed run the table with two songs in that stratosphere.

We hope Ed is a good sport because Justin Bieber is the one star that may overtake him in the next few months.
