A Grammy Winner Passes Away

Paul Buckmaster has passed away.

That may not mean much to the average music fan, but his death is noteworthy for those in the music business. Paul died last week at the age of 71, due to an undisclosed illness, with family and friends by his side. Paul Buckmaster was the man to bring in for his orchestral genius in the early days of rock and roll, gaining initial fame with David Bowie for his work on the song “Space Oddity,” eventually lending his talents to arrange the instrumentation of songs for The Rolling Stones, Elton John, Carly Simon, Harry Nilsson, Guns N’ Roses and more.

Artist songs that Paul touched reads like a ‘who’s who’ of music, including The Goo Goo Dolls, Taylor Swift, Tears for Fears, Train, No Doubt, Heart and Kenny Loggins.

Paul graduated from the prestigious Royal Academy of Music in London, and one of his first jobs was playing the cello on the early Bee Gee songs. Paul won a Grammy for the ‘Best Instrumental Arrangement Accompanying Vocalist(s); in 2002.
