The Country Stars Shine at This Sunday’s AMAs

The American Music Awards (AMAs) is coming up this Sunday night, 8 pm EST on ABC. Dick Clark came up with the show in 1973 for ABC after they lost the Grammys to another media outlet. The network needed another music award show to replace the loss of revenue. Unlike many Awards shows (Grammy, Oscar etc.) The AMA honors are chosen by the fans. Sam, Thomas, and Keith are all nominated for ‘Favorite Male Artist in the Country Category.’ Let’s get to know them a little better…

Unlike his competitors, Sam Hunt was not the least bit interested in music until he was 18, and frankly, he was studying philosophy at the University of Alabama-Birmingham and played football.

If you’re a Thomas Rhett fan you know that his dad is Rhett Akins, a successful country singer. What you may not have known is that he’s married to Lauren, a young lady he’s known since they were in the second grade.

Keith Urban dropped out of school to play music, but that wasn’t much of a gamble as he was the best guitar player around. He came over to the US and became a sought-after session guitarist, playing on the songs of Brooks and Dunn, the Dixie Chicks, and Alan Jackson.
