Kendrick Lamar is ‘straight outta Compton,’ having been born in the suburb of Compton in 1987. He began his career under the name of K-Dot, making mix tapes and making the rounds to local record labels trying to get signed. His latest single “HUMBLE.” is near the top of the charts, moving downward after hitting number one a few weeks ago. Would you believe he’s already earned seven Grammys?
Kendrick is also nominated for eight VMA Awards, including Artist of the Tear, Video of the Year “HUMBLE.,” Best Hip Hop, Cinematography, Video Direction, Best Art Direction, and Best Visual Effects for the former number one single “HUMBLE.”
In rare form, Kendrick appeared on the cover of Rolling Stone Magazine in mid-August, a notable achievement for any musician, notwithstanding a rapper.
