Friday night the Foo Fighters along with a few others took some time to honor one of the best in the business, Tom Petty. The band played two songs at the Musicares Person of the Year ceremony, both of which were Petty Covers. The first was “Honey Bee” with the second being “Breakdown.”

You may not have known this, but David Grohl almost became a member of Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers. He was approached by Petty after Nirvana broke up due to Kurt Cobain’s suicide. The two would work together for an appearance on Saturday Night live, but Grohl would help form the Foo Fighters.

Others to perform Friday night included Elle King, The Lumineers, Cage the Elephant, Don Henley, Randy Newman and Stevie Nicks among others.
