The M3 Rock Festival is scheduled for later April of this year in Columbia MD. Did you know that the festival has added another day of music, featuring the best of ‘Southern Rock.’? This festival addition made us wonder what might be considered the best ‘Southern Rock’ band of all time… Here are a few we believe are at the top of any list..
Lynyrd Skynyrd is simply the best Southern Rock has to offer. “Gimmie Three Steps,” “Sweet Home Alabama” or “Free Bird” are the national anthems of this genre.
The band Mountain must be on the list, given the incredible lead vocals and guitar of Leslie West, and the keyboard genius of Felix Pappalardi. Elvin Bishop once played in the band, and ironically they were not from the South, rather Long Island, NY!
Humble Pie (with 15 year old Peter Frampton) proved that a band can own the Southern Rock sound and be from the UK!
ZZ Top, The Allman Brothers, Molly Hatchet, and the Marshall Tucker Band are all at the altar of Southern Rock.
