The Bee Gees were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1997 and it’s been an interesting ride for Barry, Maurice, and Robin ever since. The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame by Alphabet continues with a look at one of the biggest family bands of all time, The Bee Gees.
The boys began in Manchester England 1958, recording and performing as the Rattlesnakes. Their father moved the family to Queensland Australia a few years later, with the boys changing the name of the group to the Bee Gees.
The band worked the resorts looking for their big break, coming by appearing on local TV show until they were discovered by Australian star Col Joye who helped shape the band’s sound and on stage antics.
The Bee Gees have sold over 100 million records, leveraging disco to become the dominant 70s artists. The album ‘Saturday Night Fever’ earned the Bee Gees five Grammy awards, solidifying the group as one of the best ever.
