You don’t often think of women as villains or protagonists in films, yet Hollywood resealed a few headlines last week that are turning heads. It seems 23% of all villains in films last year were women.

Considering the 250 top-grossing films of the year, 58 feature female evil doers, or 23%. Looking at additional examples, ‘Bad Moms,’ ‘Arrival,’ ‘Don’t Breathe,’ ‘Me Before You’ and ‘Bridget Jones’s Baby’ all turn the tables on typical Hollywood protagonists.

Faye Dunaway was perfect for her role in ‘Bonnie and Clyde,’ while Kathy Bates shined in her role as bad girl in ‘Misery.’
