Yesterday we talked about the best soul songs ever recorded. Let’s stay on topic a bit and share what we think were the best ‘Funk’ songs of our time.

“Play That Funky Music (White Boy)” by Wild Cherry was a catchy tune recorded by a group that came from Mingo Junction Ohio, proving that soul comes from many parts of the country.

“You Sexy Thing” by Hot Chocolate was Fun personified. Errol Brown the voice of HC died in 2016, but the funk this group played will live on forever.

“One Nation Under a Groove” from the band Funkadelic is the National Anthem of Funk.

“Tear the Roof Off the Sucker/Give Up the Funk” gave us more Funk than we could ever handle, and Parliament brought that Funk for all to hear.

“Thank You (Falletinme Be Mice Elf Agin)” by Sly & The Family Stone is the sweetest sound from one of the innovative rock/funk/pop groups from the Bay ever recorded.

“Theme from Shaft” by the late Isaac Hayes is a great song because it has all the components of a hit tune – great intro, rich deep voice, and dramatic finish.

“That Lady Part I” from the Isley Brothers was pure joy, 100% guitar riff, danceable candy. We also want to include “Fight the Power” and “Shout” from the band.
