As you know, Neil Pert, drummer for the Canadian rock band Rush, is retiring this year, having accomplished everything he set out to do. While on tour over the summer, a film crew filmed the band for a documentary. The documentary ‘Time Stand Still’ narrated by Paul Rudd, hit a few select theaters this week, with a national release later in the year. The documentary will feature interviews and behind the scenes footage of roadies and band members.

Here are our favorite Rush singles…

“Fly By Night” is the song that launched/introduced the band with its American audiences. Without Geddy’s opening vocals and radio packaged single, they would still be playing at the Kitchener Holiday Inn.

“Tom Sawyer” is the ultimate rock/poetic song with lyrics that remain relevant today.

There could be no finer guitar marriage than lead Alex and bass Geddy (as demonstrated in the opening riff) in the Rush song “Spirit of Radio.” This marriage of sound alone will yield a harvest of hot guitarists 10 years from now.

“New World Man” seems like the 80s answer to the Police, wonderful hook and Geddy vocals. This may be the best ‘on the road’ song from the band.
