For months and months all we have heard about is the possibility of expansion in college football, specifically for the Big 12 conference. It made a whole lot of sense for this conference to move from 10 teams to 12, giving the conference more legitimacy by adding two strong teams. Well, the conference has decided not to expand and will not be adding any teams.

This is somewhat surprising news considering the traction schools like BYU, Houston, Cincinnati, USF and a few others were gaining. At the same time, one of the big reasons to expand was lost when the NCAA said conferences could hold a conference championship game with 10 teams instead of previously requiring you to have 12 teams in the conference to have a conference championship game; this will begin in 2017. This change allowed for the Big 12 to play another game and have a true conference winner.

Expansion is likely to come in the next 5-10 years, but for right now there will be no expansion in the Big 12.
