Bob Dylan can now add ‘Nobel Prize winner’ to his credits, earning the prestigious award this week. Bob received the prize in recognition of his significant poetic contributions in the category of literature, “using the great American song” as his vehicle.
Born Robert Allen Zimmerman in Duluth, MN, Bob spent the late 50s and early 60s carving out his place in music, using the folk genre to describe in song the troubles of the day. Over the span of his career, he’s earned 11 Grammys, a Golden Globe, an Academy Award, and has sold over 130 million albums world-wide. Bob has been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, the Minnesota Music Hall of Fame and the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame. Bob also received the Presidential Medal of Freedom from President Barack Obama earlier this year.
