TV Shows and Their Hit Music

We know that music and movies go hand in hand, but great music and TV show also have a wonderful relationship. Here at the TV shows that had a hit song for its theme, or TV show that turned its theme into a hit.

The theme from the TV show Rockford Files, by prolific producer and writer Mike Post, was a top song on the charts. In fact, Mike scored with themes and radio hits with songs from the themes of great TV show like Hill Street Blues, The Greatest American Hero, NYPD Blue, The A-Team, Magnum PI, and of course Law and Order. All of these themes from these shows had chart history.

The Love Boat theme from Paul Williams was a hit on the radio, as was Welcome Back Kotter by the Lovin’ Spoonful’s” John Sebastian. Lavern and Shirley inspired radio to play its theme song, and Hawaii Five-O and Cheers all theme songs made in big on the music charts.

The theme from the TV shows WKRP In Cincinnati had a run on the radio, as did Mission Impossible and Star Trek.
