It’s been quite some time since we even thought of TLC, but we couldn’t help but look at one of the group’s most famous songs from their past, especially on its anniversary. We’re talking about “Unpretty” on its 17th anniversary! It turned 17 this past weekend, but it’s never too late to talk about this number one hit.
The song is quite influential with the message empowering women of all shapes, sizes and colors. What a great song it was, but it was that message that connected with the group’s fans and those who just generally like good music.
The song was nominated for two Grammys, but unfortunately TLC didn’t take home any hardware that night. “Unpretty” did reach number one on the US Billboard Hot 100 though. It was also reach number one on the UK R&B chart as well.
Everyone remembers “No Scrubs,” the hit before “Unpretty,” but it was this empowering single that had a huge impact on more than just the music industry.
