Can you believe we’re not that far from the 4th of July? Where does the time go when we’re having so much fun at work? Here are your music news headlines to kick off the beginning of your week in the coalmine…

Legendary singer and rock and roller Meatloaf is in stable condition in an Edmonton area hospital after collapsing in stage last Friday. Meatloaf won a Grammy for “I Would Do Anything For Love,” selling millions of albums driven by the singles “Two out of Three Ain’t Bad” and “Bat out of Hell.” Meatloaf has also appeared in “Rocky Horror Picture Show” and “Fight Club.” Although diagnosed with a heart condition few years ago, Meatloaf is expected to make a full recovery from this regent health scare.

ZZ Top announced plans to release a 15 track ‘Greatest Hits’ album in early August of this year, featuring all your favorites. You can pre-order your copy at Amazon or iTunes as we speak.

Although earlier attempts to make litigation regarding the classic song “Stairway to Heaven” should have made this legal battle go away, the suit by the estate of the late band ‘Spirit’; Randy California has entered its 4th day, with jurors hearing from John Paul Jones, testifying on the behalf of Jimmy Page and Robert Plant the litigants. The suit claims Zep stole the open to the classic song from the Spirit song “Taurus.”

Metallica is finishing its latest studio album this week with an expected release of later this summer, while Blackfoot has finished its double album CD, going to public mid-August.
