Did you know that there is a ‘Spoken Word’ Grammy? How about a song that gets in the Hall by virtue of being a song? The Hall was established in 1973, currently run by the Recording Academy. Here are a few of the songs headed into the Hall this year…

“The Locomotion” in 1962 may have been a big hit for Little Eva, but it was a moment the writers would never forget; the young and innocent Carole King and Gerry Goffin. Without this song, Carole may have never secured enough money and confidence to sing and write her own songs, Gerry later would start his own significant record label.

“I Love Rock N Roll” By Joan Jett was actually a cover of a garage band 1975 song written by unknown (and still unknown) Alan Merrill and Jake Hooker of the band ‘The Arrows.’ Joan was touring as a member of the Runaways in the mid-70s and saw the Arrows perform the song, thinking she’d one day record that song on her own. The video of the song was a staple of the early MTV launch, thus the song was a video hit as well. It’s safe to say that without this song Joan would probably not have been a star or inducted into the Hall of Fame.
