Can’t Get Enough One Hit Wonders

Even a blind squirrel finds an acorn every now and then. In the music business we call these ‘lucky once’ bands one hit wonders. Here are a few more we think are worthy of sharing…

“Magnet and Steel” by Walter Egan was a top 10 hit in August of 1978, a haunting ballad/melody from an unusual singer. Walter was a fine arts major at the prestigious Georgetown University, playing in off campus bands. After moving to Boston, then traveling to Los Angeles, he caught the ear of Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie Nicks who produced his second and only successful album.

Johnny Bristol was part of the Motown writing team in the late 60s and early 70s. Johnny set out on his own, writing the smash soulful song “Hang On in There Baby” a song that caught fire in Europe before making it up in the charts in the US. Oddly Johnny avoided his native America hitting the road to tour in Europe for years, realizing that his money market was not with the US.
