Let’s take a look at more cover songs coming from the rock genre. It’s been years and years so there are many songs we could talk about, but here are a few more…

Rod Stewart’s “First Cut is the Deepest” originally by P.P. Arnold, but Cat Stevens wrote the song as a young song writer in 1967, throwing it on his wildly unknown ‘New Masters’ album. The song was covered again in 2004 by new artist Sheryl Crow.

Stevie Wonder’s “Superstition” is the cover of the Jeff Beck rock version from the 70s.

Sadly, the Kingsmen get all the credit for their only hit song “Louie Louie,” but it was Richard Berry and the Pharaohs that first recorded the song.

Unknown New York writer and performer gave the world “Killing Me Softly,” but we continue to give Roberta Flack all the credit.

“Take Me in Your Arms and Rock Me” was a smash hit for the Doobie Brothers, but written and performed by Motown’s Holland, Dozier, and Holland.

Ram Jam had their only hit with a guitar driven song called “Black Betty.” It was a really rocking tune, but not the original. The original song was a blues tune of the same name, done in the 1930s by Huddie “Lead-Belly” Leadbetter. Ram Jam’s cove was a carbon copy of the original.
