The 60s was an incredible decade that historians often describe as the ideological perfect storm that will never be repeated. Racial and gender strife, the Vietnam War, civil unrest, drug exploration and technological advances were all reflected in the music. Here is part one of our “Top 60s Albums.”

“Tommy” by the Who is an album that brought theatrics and deep writing to the forefront of rock music. This concept album has been the inspiration of books, movies and Broadway show.

“Led Zeppelin II” from the classic group Led Zeppelin is still considered the most influential rock album of its time. Zeppelin’s biggest hit, “Whole Lotta Love,” came from that vinyl.

What can you say about “Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club” by the Beatles that hasn’t already been said? The album became a left turn for traditional Beatles fans, while changing FM radio and the music industry forever.

“I Heard it Through the Grapevine” by Marvin Gaye proved Motown artists could break all the sales records with a hit single.

“Highway 61 Revisited” came at the peak of Folk/Rock and ushered Bob Dylan to super status with his thought provoking single “Like a Rolling Stone.”
