Eagles founding member Glenn Frey unexpectedly died recently, so we thought we’d like to look back at our favorite Eagles and solo Glenn Frey songs. Here’s part one of “Remembering Glenn.”

Although Don Henley helped, “Lying Eyes” was a significant song because it not only became a Top 10 song, but it was the band’s first receiving airplay from Country radio stations, opening their music to Country fans. It was played on pop stations in spite of its atypical length.

The single, “The Long Run,” from the album of the same name, was played by rock, pop, and Top 40 radio stations across the US and Canada. The song appeared on the popular TV show WKRP in Cincinnati, and caused some controversy as it was hauntingly familiar to a soul song called “Tryin’ to Live My Life without You” by Otis Clay in the early 70s.

Although not written by Glenn, “The Heat is On” was a smash hit for Glenn from the “Beverly Hills Cop” movie in 1984, and reached number two on the charts. Coco-Cola and NASCAR used the song promotionally, and Alvin and the Chipmunks covered the hit in a later album.
