Janet Jackson took to Instagram to reveal an extended trailer for her upcoming documentary, the Janet Jackson Doc.

With a newly announced release date of January 28th through Lifetime and A&E, the documentary will commemorate the 40th anniversary of her 1982 self-titled debut album.

The new trailer reveals that the documentary, which has been in production for over five years, was mostly filmed during the time that her father, Joe, had died in 2018.

“There were times when I just didn’t understand where I actually fit in,” Janet said of the relationship. “My father was very strict. He was in charge of my life, my career. My father said, ‘You’re gonna sing.’”

The film will feature archival footage from major moments in Jackon’s life, including her brother Michael’s death in 2009. The Janet Jackson Doc will also feature cameos from Samuel L. Jackson, Teyana Taylor, Whoopi Goldberg, Q-Tip, Mariah Carey, Missy Elliott, Ciara, Paula Abdul, and more.

“This is my story, told by me. Not through someone else’s eyes,” Jackson said. “This is the truth. Take it or leave it. Love it or hate it. This is me.”
