Britney Spears Calls Out Diane Sawyer for Harsh 2003 Interview

Britney Spears, in a since-deleted Instagram post, finally called out Diane Sawyer for bringing the pop star to tears in a 2003 interview. 

“Do we dare forget the Diane Sawyer interview in my apartment almost 20 years ago?” Spears wrote in her post, reflecting on the emotional experience. “What was with the ‘You’re in the wrong’ approach?? Geeze… and making me cry???”

Spears had just split from Justin Timberlake at the time, and Sawyer suggested that the singer was setting a bad example for children and “upsetting a lot of mothers in this country.” She also, at one point, asked Spears: “Justin has gone on television and pretty much said you broke his heart. You did something that caused him so much pain, so much suffering. What did you do?” 

“Something I never shared when I had that breakup years ago was that I couldn’t talk afterward,” Spears explained. “I was in shock… pretty lame of my dad [Jamie] and three men to show up at my door when I could hardly speak… two days later, they put Diane Sawyer in my living room… they forced me to talk!”

“I was a baby… I was almost 22 and didn’t understand,” Spears concluded in advocacy for her young self. “But I f—king do now…[Sawyer] can kiss my white a—”
