Fashion is constantly changing; what is fresh one season is often stale the next. This year alone, we have all witnessed the rise of cottagecore, the fall of the once-beloved stilettos, and the wholehearted embracing of ugly, yet undeniably comfy shoes (are you team Crocs or Uggs?). But one constant thread throughout all our style choices is, and will always be, the trusty boot.

Fashion also has a way of acting like a merry-go-round, in that eventually, styles that have gone away, will come right back at ya. Each fall and winter season, it seems that we all become positively giddy at the chance to don our best boots, both new, and old-become-new-again. For Fall 2021, that means the resurgence of classic combat boots, ’80s platforms, and yes, the ol’ cowboy boot have leaped onto fashion’s front row.  Can we get a Yee Haw, Y’all?

From traditional black leather to metallic silver, the trick to this trend is tapping into the Western appeal of cowboy boots—think old-school Americana and dimly lit saloons—with your style. Isabel Marant’s collection provides the blueprint: models are seen pairing elevated burgundy western boots with luxury knitwear, creating an on-trend outfit that still works for day-to-day wear. But it’s important to remember to have fun with this style and not take it too seriously. After all, it was called the Wild West for a reason.
