Did you just purchase your home and you want to make it your own? Or are you just getting bored with the same ol, same ol. Sprucing up your digs doesn’t have to cost a mint or require a contractor’s license. Here are five simple and inexpensive ways to freshen up your home.

Paint. Painting is one of the simplest, most cost-effective home improvements out there. That’s easily done yourself.   It’s also where you can let your creative side fly free, because hey, you can always paint over it again, right? So go to your local hardware store, gather up some palette samples, even get some small sampler cans mixed up, and go for it!

Update Fixtures & Hardware. New light and plumbing fixtures are a great way to completely change the look of a room, and while you can go high end if you want, there are plenty of lower-priced, nice looking options available. Once purchased, you can either change out the fixtures yourself, or if you’re like me and don’t trust your hands near wires or pipes, you can call a local electrician, plumber or handyman to install them for you for a nominal hourly fee.

Fix It. Look around. Do you have a leaky faucet? A torn screen window? Missing weather stripping at the door? These small boo-boo’s add up and make your place look run down and neglected. Make a “honey do” list and either DIY or call a handyman.

Go Outside. Water wise native shrubs and trees can not only beautify your yard, but also add value to your home, save you time on yard maintenance, and money on that water bill!
